Price reduced $1,000! And a new Weber carb!
1987 Subaru Brat. 163,000 miles and in good mechanical condition. Engine starts right up and pulls “hard” for its whopping 73hp 4 cylinder engine with 4 speed manual transmission, but it does leak a little oil. The 4WD system engages smoothly and works well. There is very little rust to be found except some surface rust on the sheet metal below the tailgate/behind the bumper. It has been repainted (not well), but looks good from a distance – a “twenty footer”?!?!
The interior is mostly good with no cracks in the dash and all instruments and the aftermarket radio work fine, but the seats are cracking and need to be reupholstered. A decent pair of black sedan/wagon seats are included. A full tune-up, new muffler, and new passenger front axle were installed last summer, but there is still a clunk when going over big bumps on that side. The stock Hitachi carb just died a couple weeks ago and we were unable to source another Hitachi, so our mechanic installed a new Weber and removed all the vacuum lines and it starts and idles much better now!
Overall, a really fun little rig that gets thumbs up or starts conversations every time we drive it! We just need a larger pickup, darn it. Stay well!
