Up for sale is a 1979 Subaru Brat, first launched in the US in 1978 it was at the time classified as a 4WD coupe utility, with the dual rear facing seat in the cargo area Subaru was able to classify the Brat as a passenger vehicle thus avoiding at the time a 25% tariff on all light duty trucks entering the US from overseas, the word BRAT is short for “Bi-drive Recreational All-terrain Transporter” the car in 2WD mode is front wheel drive until engaged then the rear wheels come in an make it 4wd. Subaru/Fuji Heavy Industries has come along was since then, the little BRAT which at the time was popular for its off road capability, versatility, fuel economy an uniqueness has since gone the way like a lot of late 70’s an early 80’s vehicles in the forgotten pile.
