1986 Subaru BRAT GL for sale.

$3500. ODO says about 250K. Very little rust. Doesn’t look like it was ever repaired for body damage or rust. That’s this man’s opinion. The paint and interior are rough but the car is solid. I would prefer this go to someone who is a Subaru

Enthusiast but money talks, so there’s that. Title in hand in my name, ready to go. I have the car with classic insurance, which, in my state/locale negates the need for “smog certification” so it doesn’t have one. Last time I tried, I had to file for an exception with the state and it was granted, but that was at least 5 years ago.

BRAT is an acronym for Bi-drive Recreational All-terrain Transporter. It was imported to the US from 1978-1987 although Subaru continued to sell this model (albeit with different nameplates) in other places throughout the world until the mid-90s. The BRAT was never sold in Japan, it was an ‘export only’ model. The BRAT has an “on the fly” lever that shifts the car from front wheel drive to four wheel drive while moving. It’s a dual range so you can shift into low for some awesome extra power. This car is the ultimate billy goat off-road. You’ll be the envy of MtnRoo!

Good: Solid engine and body. Not sure of actual mileage, but I would guess well under what’s on the ODO. New front struts and CVs. Newer tires and battery. It’s a badass on the freeway, cruises smooth as silk. There is very little slop while shifting. All gauges and lights are functional. It has the AM/FM with cassette player option. New radiator. New ignition (need key to open and key to start). Starts right up every time.

BAD: Despite recent replacement, the CVs appear bad (this man’s opinion, not sure). The carb has a few flat spots that need some attention but which don’t cause major issues. The interior is a complete mess. It smells like a dead animal and it looks like something may have given live birth, so I am guessing mammal.

Rear Facing Seats: Were not on models after 1985 in the US. However, they can be found and installed. I probably have a set that you can try to pry out of my hands. Not included in sale price though. The seats make the bed much less functional, so it all depends on what you want to do with it.

I think 3500 is a fair price based on what I’m seeing. All work done professionally done. If I have receipts, you can have them.

Car is for sale, as is, where is in Phoenix, AZ and is available for inspection.
